GOALIE WARS

GOALIE WARS PICTURES

INFORMATION and RULES

Eighteen years ago the Rogue Valley Cup Soccer Tournament was the first tournament on the Northwest and most likely the entire West Coast to initiate "Goalie Wars". Goalie Wars is and has been a main stay at the Rogue Valley

Cup every year on Saturday night at North Medford High School from 8:30 to 11:00 pm , under the lights. Yes 8:30 pm is a late time to start but remember that the last games do not finish until 8:15 pm at all fields, so this allows those keepers to make it over to NMHS in time to participate too. It is a "free event" to the goalies and the spectators. As you can see in the pictures we have 6 pairs of goals running simultaneously. We also give the first place finisher of each age group and gender a Premium Vizari Keeper Jersey and each second place finisher a Premium pair of Vizari Keeper Gloves.

You can sign your keeper for Goalie Wars at the Mandatory Check in Friday night at Abe Lincoln Elem. School Gym from 7:00 to 10:00 pm or at tournament Head Quarters at US Cellular Community Sports Park on Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. We ask that you sign up only one keeper per team, but if your team has a "true" 2nd keeper they can be signed up as alternate, but there is no guarantee that any or all alternates will be allowed.

We encourage all tournament participating keepers to come out show their skills and bring their entire entourage of players, parents and siblings to cheer them on. We will typically see 3000 people out there over the course of the evening. The food and sales booths will be open too, so if you need a sweatshirt or a hot coco, we got you covered.

GOALIE WARS

Rules of Play: (Revised 2011)

Two goals are set 20 yards apart for U-10, U-11 and U-12 and 30 yards apart for U-13 through U-19.  The first goalie to score (3) goals wins.  For U-10, U-11 and U-12, the first goalie to score two wins.  Goalies have 4 minutes to score.  If the time is up and the score is 0-1, the goalie with the 1 point wins and advances to face new opponents.  If the time is up and the score is tied (e.g. 1-1) play continues until the next goal wins.

Play starts with a flip of a coin.  The winner chooses whether to kick/throw or receive.  The ball is started with the goalie standing o the goal line of his/her goal.

NEW RULE CHANGE:

No longer is there a rule limiting the amount of steps a goalie can take.  THE GOALIE HAS 6 SECONDS TO KICK/THROW THE BALL! (Once the goalie comes to their feet the counting starts)

All other rules are the same as last year.

Corner kicks/throw-ins start with opposing goalie on the goal line.

REMEMBER referee’s word is final!
